I think I was an early teen when a camera first made it into my hands. If my memory serves me right, it was hot pink, and I had to manually slide a rectangular piece to advance the film! Photography was something I loved immediately.

Many years later I signed myself up for black and white film classes and learned a thing or two. I started photographing anyone I could. Shortly after, my first of two children was born. Agh! An adorable subject to shoot every day! (yes, there are many, many pictures of him – and not nearly as many of my daughter). With all of that practice, I started booking sessions to build a portfolio. Family portraits is where it began, but it did not end there. Over the past decade I’ve also photographed high school Seniors, businesses, models, weddings, and boudoir.

Each genre has it’s unique characteristics. But in each of them, I find these same loves present.

I love working with people.
I love getting to know them.
I love making the camera love them, and them love the camera.

If I had to pick my favorite part of my job, I would have to say it’s when I hear my client’s reactions to their images. I joke that I’m “addicted” to it – and in a way I guess I am. It’s the icing on the cake for me. When what I saw through the viewfinder becomes a composed image, and they see it too…there really is nothing better.
